These terms and conditions set out the conditions relating to subscribing to CastNet, whether as a free Basic subscriber or a Paying Basic+, Basic ++, Standard or Premium subscriber.
Nothing in this statement is intended to limit any rights you have under the applicable area of consumer, or local law.
Subscriptions made through this website castnet.co.uk will be with CastNet Ltd.
We expect CastNet subscribers to use their subscription at all times in a way that does not damage the reputation of the CastNet service as a whole. We reserve the right at any stage to edit profiles to maintain the professionalism of the site and, in extreme cases, to suspend, ban or blacklist users who may damage the reputation of the CastNet service and, by implication, its other subscribers.
If you have signed up for a Basic subscription your membership is free. You may upgrade to a paying Basic+ or Basic++ subscription at any time, to add standard or premium website functionality to your subscription.
If you are signing up for a Standard or Premium subscription AND are joining CastNet as a paying subscriber for the first time your first 30 days are free and your first payment will be processed 30 days after your registration on the site. You may cancel your subscription at any time during those first thirty days at no cost. Your 30 days free trial are subject to the conditions laid out below.
If you are signing up for a Standard or Premium subscription AND have been a paying subscriber with CastNet before then your first payment will be debited as soon as you have registered on the site and completed your direct debit instruction.
We use the secure GoCardless website to process your direct debit instructions for membership subscriptions. We use the secure Paypal website to process card payments for domain name registration and the purchase of email addresses. CastNet does not hold, nor does it have access to, your bank details. Payments that you make through these services are subject to the terms and conditions of GoCardless and/or Paypal.
We would remind you that the security of information and payments transmitted via the Internet cannot be guaranteed. Any losses incurred or sustained by users who transmit information by means of email or other internet link shall be borne solely and exclusively by such user and in no event shall any such losses in whole or part be borne by CastNet.
CastNet cannot be held liable for any losses caused as a result of unauthorised access to the information provided by you. We strongly advise that when making an online transaction you do not use a public or shared computer or a device such as a laptop or mobile phone while you are using public wireless networks. Make sure that nobody can see your confidential details whilst you are typing, and close your browser when you have finished. The computer you use to attach to any online payments system should be secure, and include the latest operating system, software and anti-virus updates.
Terms and conditions of free 30 day trial offer – for first-time paying Standard or Premium subscribers only
By subscribing to CastNet you consent for your personal details to be held on our database. CastNet may need to contact you from time to time with information relating to your CastNet subscription. We will use your email address, mobile number and landline number to contact you and to forward you information sent by third parties through our website. It is vital that you keep these contact details up to date.
You can update your details by logging in to your account and editing your details on the My Details page on the top right hand Settings menu.
Any professional contact details that you choose to show on your profile will be publicly available to third parties. See below. Your personal contact details would only be made available to third parties with your permission.
It is your responsibility to keep your email address up to date with CastNet, secure, and ensure that the relevant usernames / passwords are not known by anyone else. We are not responsible for the successful delivery of your emails – please ensure that emails from castnet.co.uk are added to your safe senders list and do not go to your junk or spam folders. This is to include automated emails from CastNet.
Please note that you are responsible for the professional contact details that you make available on your public profile or CastNet website. You may add agent contact details or personal contact details as you wish, but CastNet takes no responsibility for any extra spam or phishing emails that you may receive as a result. We recommend that you install an up-to-date email protection filter. If you post no contact details on your profile you will appear on your CastNet profile as “c/o CastNet”. If we receive enquiries for you regarding casting opportunities from third parties we will make endeavours to contact you – premium and standard subscribers will be prioritised – please be aware that may employers need swift responses so if we are unable to contact you the opportunity may disappear. You may receive information regarding such opportunities to your email or via SMS, but your personal contact details will remain anonymous unless you choose to share them in your response to a potential employer.
When you have an agent potential employers will very often contact you via your agent. If they call our offices then they will only be given contact details that you have made publicly available. However, should an employer tell us that they have been unable to reach you we may try to contact you directly.
CastNet reserves the right to edit and remove the information you supply on your profile without consultation. Circumstances in which we might do this may include: spelling or typographical errors; where we consider material unsuitable or not up to standard; where we consider that entries made are significantly more verbose than necessary.
While we try to ensure accuracy of our casting information it is supplied by third parties. CastNet cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions in casting breakdown information supplied. We make every effort to publish information as soon as possible after it is released, but we cannot be held liable for any delay in releasing information.
Premium and Standard subscriptions are only open to professionally trained actors or those with significant paid professional experience. Your Standard or Premium membership may be refused based on our criteria, in which case we will make a full refund.
New Standard and Premium subscribers are required to supply contact details for two referees within one month of joining the service. Failure to do so may result in suspension from the Standard or Premium service. Actors who are discovered to have submitted bogus credits, or make fraudulent claims on their profile, should expect to be blacklisted from our service. In these cases there will be no refund due.
We also reserve the right to suspend, ban or blacklist subscribers whose work, in our opinion, does not meet standards or whose conduct might damage the reputation of CastNet. In these rare cases any overpayment will be refunded.
Basic, Basic+ and Basic++ subscriptions are open to anyone. Basic subscribers will not have access to information on paid work. Basic subscribers are also required to uphold the CastNet Code of Conduct. We reserve the right to suspend, ban or blacklist subscribers whose work, in our opinion, does not meet standards or whose conduct might damage the reputation of CastNet.
CastNet reserves the right to refuse an application for subscription without giving a reason.
We recommend that every professional performer uses one unique, professional name across the industry, to avoid confusion with another performer. We reserve the right to refuse membership if your name is not sufficiently different from another CastNet member. Priority on names will be given to subscribers with an Equity registered name. Where a conflict exists between two members without an Equity registered name, priority will be decided by CastNet giving consideration to length of subscription and level of membership. You may be asked to change your name if it is already being used, or a refund will be given for your membership.
Equity can give advice on how to go about changing your name and how best to choose a new name.
It is your responsibility to make sure that you have full copyright permissions for all photography, audio clips and video clips that you upload to your profile or CastNet website.
You must provide us with the name of the photographer for all photographs submitted to CastNet. Photographers must be credited, according to copyright law. Photographs should be of professional standard and be at least 72 dpi. We reserve the right to refuse any photograph which we consider unsuitable or inappropriate.
There are two sections for photographs. Headshots should be professionally taken photographs of your head and shoulders. You may use full body shots in this section, but they should not be set as your main headshot or cover photo. CastNet is an actor service – not a model service. Production Photos can be shots or stills from productions you have appeared in. You should be predominant in the production photo and in any group it should be very clear which is you. Production shots are not allowed in the Headshots section.
If you are taking a clip from your professional work, please be aware that in most cases the producers of that work will either have copyright for that work or at least, a licence to the rights. You must check that you have permission – and make sure you get it in writing. Your permission is likely to be limited to short clips that feature your work, and this is likely to be granted free of charge, but there is no guarantee and you have no right to assume it.
If you are recording a voice or musical instrument clip from scratch you should bear in mind that most music and scripts of the last century are still covered by copyright and you should seek permission – usually from the publisher. It is your responsibility to make sure that you have the relevant permissions. In any case of dispute from the copyright holder CastNet will remove the material until the issue is resolved.
You must not at any time upload any material that is abusive, unlawful, defamatory, obscene, discriminatory or otherwise inappropriate. We reserve the right at any time to suspend, ban or blacklist any subscribers who violate our terms & conditions, and to remove any material which we deem to be in breach of these terms & conditions.
When you join CastNet you will need to complete your online profile at make it live as soon as possible. You may update your profile at any time. In order for your profile to be live on the website the physical details section must be completed in full and you must have at least one headshot set as your main picture.
It is your responsibility to make sure that your profile and headshots are kept up-to-date.
Your profile can be viewed publicly and the directory of actors can be searched publicly. Employers wishing to send messages to actors through the site, save shortlists and submit breakdowns must first register with us and supply their professional details. We cannot take responsibility, however, for third parties supplying false information and for this reason we advise you not to put sensitive personal information on your profile page.
CastNet cannot control the circulation of your profile page address by third parties. Removing something from your profile does not guarantee that the information may not already be held by third parties as cached or saved copies of the web page.
Do not post any information that you would wish to remain private on your CastNet website or profile as it is a publicly available page.
Your jobs dashboard allows you to access appropriate information for casting opportunities and submit yourself for roles. The level of your subscription will determine what information is available to you. Basic subscribers will only have access to information about unpaid work.
We will only send you information for jobs where you match the actor criteria specified in the casting breakdown. Actor criteria may relate to physical details, skills or specific required experience. We make no selection based on role descriptions that fall outside these criteria and we ask that you do not submit yourself for jobs for which you know you are not suitable, though you may meet the actor criteria. A bad submission can damage the reputation of the service. We also match you with jobs according to your Options. You may select which type of work you wish to receive information on. For instance if you don’t want to undertake any touring work you may deselect the touring options on your Options page. It is your responsibility to keep your profile details and your options up-to-date so that you match all the jobs for which you are appropriate.
CastNet cannot take responsibility for information included in casting breakdowns. They are supplied by third parties. We do however make every effort to make sure that breakdowns that we send out are of an appropriate professional nature for our members. We also have a strict policy on low pay/no pay engagements. Should you have any concerns regarding the nature of a casting brief sent out to you then please contact our offices immediately to report this.
Some opportunities have exceedingly tight submission deadlines: we cannot take responsibility for you missing out on work opportunities by not checking in to CastNet regularly.
We understand that many actors are prepared to work on student projects, particularly in film, in order to gain camera experience and showreel material. Where we can we will make it clear if a project is a student project.
CastNet is not an employment agency. We do not represent subscribers or act on their behalf in any negotiations with employers, nor are we involved in any casting decisions or any terms of employment. We do not accept any commission fees. All employment terms must be arranged between the worker (or their representative) and the employer/contractor.
When you join CastNet you may create your own personal website. The level of functionality of your website will depend on your level of subscription. Once made ‘live’ your website can be viewed publicly. While the content of your CastNet profile must conform to our standards, you have greater freedom over the content of your website and you are free to add pages connected with other ‘non-acting’ parts of your life and work.
You must use one of CastNet’s predesigned templates. The number of different template design to which you have access will depend on the level of subscription you have. Templates available to lower level subscriptions may not have all the functionality available to higher level subscribers.
You accept that it is entirely your responsibility to make sure that all content of your website is accurate and that you have all appropriate permissions to display the relevant images and media.
You agree that you will display no content on your website pages that may, under the laws of any jurisdiction where the material can be accessed, be considered any of the following: unlawful, threatening, abusive, harmful, obscene, pornographic, malicious, profane, libellous, defamatory, infringes any Intellectual Property Rights, constitutes or encourages a criminal offence or contains a virus, worm, trojan horse or other harmful code.
In any case of dispute from copyright holders or law enforcement agencies CastNet will remove the material until the issue is resolved.
You will provide and post to CastNet's server hosting the Customer's Web site only Material which is "server-ready" and which requires no additional manipulation on the part of CastNet. CastNet shall be under no obligation to validate such Material as not containing Inappropriate Material or for content, correctness, legality or usability.
You recognise that, while we have made efforts to make sure that our website service requires a minimum of technical knowhow, using CastNet's web site hosting service may require a certain level of knowledge on your part, and that it is your responsibility to upload the content of the your web site and to check such content functions satisfactorily. If requested CastNet may be able to recommend a suitable web development agency to assist the Customer to exploit its web site hosted by CastNet's Server. We will not take responsibility for uploading material or assisting in layout concerns.
You acknowledge that whilst CastNet may endeavour to assist you on a "good-will" basis, it is not the responsibility of CastNet to provide such knowledge or to provide the Customer with support and assistance in relation to its web site hosted by CastNet's server unless otherwise agreed in writing with CastNet.
You acknowledge and accept that you bear sole responsibility, legal and otherwise, for the content of all Material appearing on its web site hosted by CastNet's server. For the avoidance of doubt, this clause shall apply to all Material, whether posted on to the CastNet server by you or on your behalf, whether by CastNet or a third party.
You warrant, represent and undertake in relation to all Material (including any Material which you request CastNet or any third party to post on your web site hosted by CastNet's server) that: it is not Inappropriate Material; you either have sole ownership of all Intellectual Property Rights in such Material in each jurisdiction from which the web site may be accessed and/or has obtained full and effective licence(s) from all relevant third parties allowing the Customer or a third party acting on behalf of the Customer to use the Material and to permit its dissemination worldwide; you undertake not to link to any Inappropriate Material from its web site.
CastNet shall retain the right at all times to refuse to host any Material and to suspend availability of the web site and/or to remove any Material already appearing on the web site which in the opinion of CastNet: constitutes or would if posted constitute Inappropriate Material; breaches or would if posted breach Relevant Legislation or any other applicable regulations, standards or codes of practice (notwithstanding that compliance may not be compulsory); and/or harms or would if posted harm the reputation of CastNet in any way
CastNet's rights to suspend availability of the Customer's web site and/or remove content shall be without prejudice to the your sole responsibility for content of the web site and to the warranties given by you above relating to that content.
You agree: to fully virus-check all data supplied to CastNet; not to embark on any course of action, whether by use of its web site or any other means, which may cause a disproportionate level of web site activity without providing at least seven day's prior notice in writing to CastNet; to observe the limitations on data transfer notified to you by CastNet and agree, if such limits are exceeded, to pay the appropriate excess charge at CastNet's then current rates.
If the Service includes the registration of an Internet domain name you acknowledge and agree that:
We do not represent, warrant or guarantee that any domain name applied for by you or on your behalf will be registered in your requested name or is capable of being registered by you or that the use of such domain name by you will not infringe any third party rights. Accordingly, you should take no action in respect of your requested domain name(s) until you have been notified that your requested domain name has been duly registered and we shall not be liable for any such action taken by you. You acknowledge that CastNet cannot guarantee that any Domain Name you request will be available or approved for use.
You hereby irrevocably waive any claims you may have against us in respect of any decision of a naming authority to refuse to register a domain and, without limitation, you acknowledge and agree that any administration or other charge paid by you in respect of the registration of the domain name is non-refundable in any event.
We accept no responsibility in respect of the use of a domain name by you and any dispute between you and any other individual or organisation regarding a domain name must be resolved between the parties concerned and we will take no part in any such dispute. We reserve the right, on becoming aware of such a dispute concerning a domain name, at our sole discretion and without giving any reason, to either suspend or cancel the relevant service associated with the domain name, and/or to make such representations to the relevant naming authority as we deem appropriate.
You are responsible for domain name renewal and recognise that you must inform CastNet as to your intentions regarding renewal of your domain name or names.
Any domain not renewed at least 30 days before the renewal date of the domain will become unavailable on the date of expiry and cannot later be retrieved.
Any Internet Protocol address allocated by us to you shall at all times remain our sole property and you will have a non-transferrable license to use such address for the duration of this Agreement. If this Agreement is terminated for whatever reason, your license to use the Internet Protocol address shall automatically terminate and thereafter you shall not use such address.
You undertakes that it will not (and will ensure that others under its control will not) via e-mail: transmit Inappropriate Material; infringe the Intellectual Property Rights of any third party; make use of CastNet's server to an extent or in a manner which in CastNet's reasonable opinion is excessive, wasteful or otherwise to the detriment of CastNet, any of CastNet's customers or any other third party, including but not limited to: the transmission of bulk e-mail ("spamming"); or referring to CastNet hosted websites or email addresses in bulk e-mail ("spamming") sent via other servers; or "flaming".
When sending e-mail, you acknowledge that it is your responsibility to comply with any Relevant Legislation.
You acknowledge and agree that CastNet is not responsible for the security of the contents of e-mail sent or received by you.
CastNet will use its reasonable endeavours to ensure that messages are routed accurately and promptly but does not accept any liability for non-receipt, non-delivery or misrouting of e-mail or any other failure of the e-mail system.
CastNet's policy is to respect the privacy of e-mail messages sent, received forwarded or otherwise dealt with by it and the Customer acknowledges that CastNet will therefore not monitor, edit or disclose the contents of such messages unless required to do so by law or competent authority or to protect CastNet's rights and/or position.
You acknowledge that the file size for email data transfer may be limited and alternative means of data transfer may be necessary.
The level of career support and personal service provided by CastNet will depend on your level of subscription. Our career support and advice will often come from third parties and it is all intended to give a broad picture foo the industry. Advice may reflect varied and conflicting opinions. In all cases CastNet will take no responsibility and cannot accept liability for any consequences of subscribers following advice that they received through our service, whether directly or indirectly. You accept that you take full responsibility your decisions.
We may pass on industry offers from third parties. While we accept these offers in good faith and do our best to ensure that offers and products come from reputable suppliers, we accept no liability for services or products offered by third parties.
Premium subscribers are entitled to a one-to-one consultation with a working industry professional. These may only be booked after six months’ uninterrupted paid Premium level subscription, not including any free trial period. Subscribers may express a preference for which area of the industry they would like their consultant to come from, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Appointment times must be adhered to and subscribers will lose their slot if they arrive late. Consultations may be held over telephone or Skype at the convenience of the consultant. You accept that consultants are busy working professionals and that they may rearrange their appointments at short notice. Consultants are paid for their time and a subscriber who misses their appointment will not be eligible for another until the following year.
Subscribers are only entitled to one consultation within any 12-month period.
In all cases CastNet will take no responsibility and cannot accept liability for any consequences of subscribers following advice that they received through our service, whether directly or indirectly. You accept that you take full responsibility your decisions.
Upgrades, downgrades and cancellations may be carried out at any time through the website. Upgrades will require a new direct debit instruction to raise the upper limit of the subscription payment. Downgrades will result in an automatically adjusted payment. Any amounts already paid at the time of downgrade will not be refunded. You accept that it is your responsibility to keep track of your direct debit payments. CastNet will not be held responsible for any overpayments resulting from subscriber error.
Your membership subscription is charged by way of a monthly or weekly subscription, except in the case of a free Basic subscription, payable by direct debit.
Your membership starts on completion of your Direct Debit instruction and will automatically continue until cancelled by you or CastNet (see below).
Where a payment is declined your subscription level will automatically be downgraded to Basic. Should you wish to reinstate your subscription you will need to reapply.
You will be charged in £GB which, if not the currency of your bank account, will be converted by your bank into the currency of your bank account. CastNet is not responsible for any additional fees your own bank may charge.

If you wish to purchase a domain name through CastNet you agree to make immediate payment for the Services at the time of order via PayPal and at the price listed at the time. You will be informed when you need to renew your domain name. CastNet accepts no liability for any extra costs you may incur as a result of your failure to renew your domain name or email addresses in time. You understand that failure to renew may result in your domain name becoming publicly available and being bought by a third party. CastNet has no control over your domain name.
CastNet uses third-party suppliers to provide domain names. Non-delivery or non-performance of services by any third party shall not give the Customer any right to delay any payment to CastNet or to make any claim whatsoever against CastNet.
Premium and Standard subscribers who have had an uninterrupted paid subscription, not including any free trial period, for the previous three months may take a subscription holiday for a maximum of 2 months (8 weeks if you pay weekly) in any 12 month period. During this time you will receive no job information and you won’t pay anything, but your Premium or Standard Directory profiles will remain searchable by employers and your website will remain live. Your payment holiday is for your job service and does not relate to any domain name purchase. Your job information and subscription payment will restart automatically at the end of your Subscription Holiday.
Subscription holidays are not available to Basic account holders.
CastNet reserves the right to refuse or cancel a subscription for any member without explanation. In the event that membership is cancelled or refused any overpayment will be refunded and direct debit payments will cease. We also reserve the right to downgrade any subscription to a free Basic package at any time.
Membership will otherwise continue until the subscriber terminates.
If you cancel your subscription we may retain your contact details in our database. We may use this information in case of urgent employer enquiries, in which case we may, though we would have no obligation to do so, attempt to contact you to pass on a message. We will also retain professional information so that in the event of your reactivating your subscription we can reactivate your profile as quickly as possible. We also keep your details so that we can see whether you have had a CastNet subscription before.
You can ask for your details to be completely removed from the CastNet database at any time and we reserve the right to delete the records of former subscribers at any time, in line with the Data Protection Act.
You acknowledge and accept that to enable CastNet properly to provide our services you must co-operate with CastNet as required by us. Specifically you must provide CastNet with accurate details of its e-mail and telephone details and promptly notify CastNet in writing of any alterations. You must have obtained the consent of individuals whose personal data are to be held on a domain name register or are otherwise provided to CastNet. You must keep your user ID and passwords secure so that such ID and passwords are only used by you or those authorised by you.
In performing our obligations under this Agreement, we shall exercise the reasonable care and skill of a competent Internet service provider.
Except as expressly set out in this Agreement, all conditions or warranties which may be implied or incorporated into this Agreement by law or otherwise are hereby expressly excluded to the extent permitted by law. In particular, but without limitation, we exclude any warranty as to the quality or accuracy of information received through the Service.
You acknowledge and agree that we are unable to exercise control over the content of the information transmitted via the CastNet network and/or the Service and that we do not examine the use to which customers put the Service or the nature of the information and/or software they are sending or receiving, hence, we hereby exclude all liability of any kind for the transmission or reception of infringing information of whatever nature.
While we will use all reasonable endeavours to provide a prompt and continuing service, you are responsible for insuring yourself and/or your organisation against all loss of or damage to data, hence, we will not be liable to you for any loss of or damage to data stored/transmitted on/using our service and/or the CastNet network.
You acknowledge and agree that it is your responsibility to adopt appropriate security measures for the protection of computer systems and, hence, we will not be liable to you for any loss or damage that you suffer as a result of any virus or other hostile computer program being introduced into your computers or computer systems as a result of your use of our service and/or the CastNet network.
We will not be liable to you, whether in contract, tort or otherwise: for loss, whether direct or indirect, of business, revenue or profits anticipated savings or wasted expenditure, corruption or destruction of data or for any indirect or consequential loss whatsoever; or for the acts or omissions of other providers of telecommunication services or for faults in or failures of their apparatus.
CastNet will not be liable to for any refund in the event that your subscription is ‘live’ and you fail to make use of the service, or any part of the service
In any event our liability to you in respect of an event or series of connected events arising out of or in connection with the Agreement, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, shall be limited to the amount of the fee for our services.
Each provision of these terms and conditions excluding or limiting liability shall be construed separately, and shall apply and survive even if for any reason one or other of these provisions is held inapplicable or unenforceable in any circumstances and shall remain in force notwithstanding the termination or expiry of this Agreement.
Any liability of CastNet whatever arising under these terms or otherwise in respect of the Service or any product shall be deemed to end 6 months after the date on which the customer ought reasonably to have known of the event giving rise to the liability. For the avoidance of doubt, the customer acknowledges and agrees that no claims or actions by the customer can be validly made after the expiry of 6 months following such date.
Both CastNet and the subscriber agree not to disclose any Confidential Information received from the other party; or make any use of any such Confidential Information other than for the purposes of submitting for jobs on the site.
Each party may disclose Confidential Information received from the other to its responsible employees, consultants, sub-contractors or suppliers who need to receive the information in order fulfil the terms of this agreement.
These confidentiality obligations under clause 7.1 shall not apply to any information which is or subsequently becomes available to the general public other than through a breach by the receiving party; or is already known to the receiving party before disclosure by the disclosing party; is developed through the independent efforts of the receiving party; or the receiving party rightfully receives from a third party without restriction as to use.
We reserve the right to vary the terms of our service at any time, however we shall inform you of such variations where we deem it necessary to do so and where reasonably practicable in the circumstances.
You will not assign, re-sell, sub-lease or in any other way transfer your subscription (or any element thereof), to a third party or any of your rights or obligations under the terms of this Agreement. Contravention of this restriction in any way, whether successful or not, will entitle us to terminate your subscription immediately.
If any provision of this Agreement or part thereof shall be void for whatever reason, the offending words shall be deemed deleted and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
CastNet reserves the right to sub-contract any of the work required to fulfil its obligations of service.
Neither party shall be liable for any loss suffered by the other party or be deemed to be in default for any delays or failures in performance hereunder (other than in relation to payment) resulting from acts or causes beyond its reasonable control or from any acts of God, acts or regulations of any governmental or supra-national authority.
This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of England and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.
These terms and conditions may be updated from time to time with no warning.
